The Heinrich Böll Foundation Washington, DC is looking for a Foreign Policy and Democracy Intern for the spring of 2024.
The Democracy & Foreign Policy intern will work with supervisors from the Transatlantic Democracy and Foreign and Security Policy programs.
This internship is best suited for students with a background in international relations, public policy, history, or German and European politics. Applicants should have a good grasp of the American and German political landscape and an interest in pressing policy challenges for both program areas.

Eligibility Criteria of the Heinrich Boll Foundation Internships in USA:
The eligibility criteria for the Foreign Policy and Democracy Internship are as follows:
- Applicants must have an experience in any of our program areas.
- Applicants with backgrounds in international relations, history, public policy, or in German and European politics are preferred.
The eligibility criteria for the Development and Digital Policy Internship are as follows:
- Applicants must have experience in digital or development policies related to the EU, US, and Global South.
- Applicants with backgrounds of public policy, economics, development studies, law, international relations, or a relevant field are preferred.
The General eligibility criteria for Internships are as follows:
- Applicants with the drive to fulfill the mission and values of the Foundation.
- Applicants must have a minimum 2 years of university-level experience.
- Applicants must have a proficiency in English language.
- Applicants must demonstrate commitment to work full-time for 3 to 6 months.
- Applicants must have completed Bachelor’s degree or enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s level program.
Responsibilities of the Heinrich Boll Foundation Internships A:
The responsibilities of the Interns for both fields are as follows:
- Able to conduct research.
- Able to write about topical issues and prevalent events.
- Able to provide support for tours, events, and speaker series.
- Able to assist with front desk duties.
- Able to manage contact database.
- Able to develop communications strategies.
- Able to develop social media content.
- Able to update the website and blogs.
- Able to complete the capstone project including policy paper, series of blog posts, expert interviews, or explanatory video script.
