Fellowship Overview

What the Fellowship Offers
The MIF Fellowship provides generous support to successful applicants, including:|
1. Monthly Stipend: JPY 220,000 to cover living expenses and research-related costs.
2. Arrival Allowance: JPY 120,000 as a one-time payment to support initial settlement in Japan.
3. Round-Trip Airfare: Economy class tickets to and from Japan.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the 2026 MIF Fellowship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. Must not hold Japanese citizenship.
2. Hold a Ph.D. (Doctorate) degree.
3. Be under 49 years old at the time of application.
4. Provide a letter of invitation from a host institution in Japan.
5. Have sufficient command of English or Japanese to carry out research.
6. Never resided or studied in Japan before.
7. Be actively employed in their home country and committed to returning after the fellowship ends.

How to Apply
Applications are open from June 1 to June 30, 2025 (Japan Standard Time). All application materials must be submitted via email in PDF format to: application@mif-japan.org. Required documents include:
