Best Idea Innovation (Senior Level): Three Outstanding Youth Innovations Driving Sustainable Impact

Osaka, Japan — Youth Break the Boundaries (YBB) has officially announced the winners of the Best Idea Innovation (Senior Level) as part of the Japan Youth Summit (JYS) 2026, held from 11–14 May 2026 in Osaka, Japan. This award recognizes teams that presented innovative, practical, and impact-oriented ideas to address today’s global challenges.

Through a highly competitive pitching and judging session, participants from various countries showcased solutions tackling social, environmental, and sustainable development issues. Among dozens of strong ideas, three teams stood out for their clear implementation potential and long-term impact.

1st Place – Group 3: Inclunity

The first prize was awarded to Group 3 for their project Inclunity (Inclusive Access Connector), a platform designed to improve access to education and create more equal life opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Inclunity was developed in response to ongoing challenges faced by people with disabilities, including limited access to education, assistive technologies, disability-friendly facilities, and employment opportunities, especially in areas with low service availability.

Using a community-based approach, Inclunity integrates three core components: access to assistive technologies and products, development of accessible facilities, and vocational rehabilitation programs to support economic independence.

What makes this project stand out is its one-stop ecosystem concept, connecting students with disabilities, parents, schools, educators, communities, and policymakers within a single integrated platform. Beyond educational support, Inclunity also provides teacher training, advocacy programs, career mentoring, and inclusive community development.

With a long-term vision to expand across more districts in Indonesia and establish inclusive community centers, Inclunity is seen as a solution that not only improves educational access but also drives sustainable social transformation.

2nd Place – Group 2: EcoBite

EcoBite is a digital platform that helps people understand the carbon footprint of the food they consume every day.

The project is based on the fact that the food sector contributes significantly to global carbon emissions, while many consumers lack accessible information about the environmental impact of their dietary choices.

EcoBite offers a QR-code-based carbon footprint calculator that can be integrated with restaurants, cafeterias, and food delivery platforms. By scanning a QR code, users can see estimated carbon emissions for each menu item, compare options, and make more environmentally responsible choices.

In addition to improving transparency, EcoBite applies behavioral nudging, encouraging positive behavior change through simple, easy-to-understand information.

Target users include students, campus communities, restaurant customers, food delivery app users, and culinary businesses. In the long run, EcoBite has strong potential as a public education tool supporting SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Through a simple yet highly relevant concept, EcoBite demonstrates how small daily decisions can contribute to global climate change mitigation efforts.

3rd Place – Group 5: CrisisMesh AI

CrisisMesh AI is an artificial intelligence–based early warning system designed to predict infrastructure failures before they occur. The idea was inspired by frequent urban infrastructure breakdowns that are often addressed only after causing major disruption to communities.

The system combines multiple data sources, such as weather data, geospatial information, incident reports, and city operational data to generate real-time risk scores. These insights are then sent as alerts to local governments, utility operators, and other stakeholders before disruptions happen.

Beyond improving preparedness, CrisisMesh AI also helps governments optimize infrastructure maintenance budgets by enabling more targeted and timely interventions. The innovation aligns closely with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), particularly in building more resilient and sustainable cities.

Empowering Youth as Global Problem Solvers

The Best Idea Innovation showcase at JYS 2026 proves that young people are not only capable of identifying global challenges, but also of delivering concrete, innovative, and impact-driven solutions.

From strengthening inclusive education for persons with disabilities, raising awareness of sustainable consumption, to developing AI-powered infrastructure resilience systems, these projects reflect strong cross-border collaboration and a shared commitment to positive global change.

Youth Break the Boundaries hopes that the innovations emerging from Japan Youth Summit 2026 will continue to grow and be implemented, contributing meaningfully to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and shaping a future that is more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient.
