Ahmad Zubaidi Amrullah, an English teacher from Gresik, East Java, has proven that dedication and passion can take you far. Through his relentless efforts in education, he was recently named Inspirational Madrasah Aliyah Teacher at the National Level at the 2024 GTK Madrasah Awards by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
This achievement adds to a long list of recognitions that highlight his work both locally and internationally. Known affectionately as Mr. Ubeid, Ahmad is more than just a teacher—he is a mentor, changemaker, and global learner.
Teaching With Purpose, Leading With Heart
For over six years, Ahmad has taught English at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Gresik. Beyond the classroom, he leads the Fun English Club (FEC), a platform he founded to empower students from low-income families. Through this club, he trains students in public speaking, storytelling, and English competitions.

His efforts have paid off. Under his guidance, students have earned over 250 English-related achievements at regional, national, and international levels. More importantly, many of them have secured full scholarships, both at home and abroad.
“To reach success, we need solid preparation and consistent effort,” Ahmad shares.
“Youth must dare to take the first step.”
From Local Madrasah to the Global Stage
Ahmad’s journey reflects how youth from rural areas can rise to global platforms. In 2018, he joined the Fulbright FLTA (Foreign Language Teaching Assistant) program in the United States. At the University of Georgia, he taught Indonesian to American students while building cross-cultural understanding.
Now, his journey continues. In January 2025, he will pursue a Master’s degree at Iowa State University through the Indonesia Bangkit Scholarship. His global exposure enriches his students, too—he brings international perspectives directly into the classroom.
Empowering the Next Generation
Ahmad doesn’t just aim to be great himself—he empowers others. Many of his students have received scholarships such as:
- Indonesia Maju Scholarship
- Indonesia Bangkit Scholarship
- English Access Scholarship
- International Youth Leaders
- Youth Leaders Exchange and Conference
- BSI Scholarship
“His mentorship opened doors for us,” said one student.
“He believed in us before we believed in ourselves.”
Actively Growing Through Global Programs
Ahmad also actively participates in international teacher development programs. His recent involvements include:
- English Language Teacher Training – RELO, U.S. Embassy (2024)
- Blended Language Learning – University of Colorado Boulder (2024)
- Transmedia Storytelling – UNSW, Australia (2024)
- Family Engagement in Education – Harvard Graduate School of Education (2023)
- Using Educational Technology – Iowa State University (2023)
- English for Media Literacy – University of Pennsylvania (2020)
Each program has helped shape his methods and allowed him to support students in navigating global opportunities.
A Role Model for Youth Across Indonesia

Ahmad’s journey is a story of passion meeting purpose. His achievements serve as a reminder to youth everywhere: your background doesn’t define your future. With clear goals and strong will, you can break the boundaries.
“He is a shining example of how youth leadership and global mindset can transform education,” said Samari, Head of MAN 2 Gresik.
Ahmad Zubaidi Amrullah is not only a teacher—he is a youth inspiration. He shows that by working hard, giving back, and thinking globally, young people can lead real change.
Ahmad’s journey is a strong reminder that youth from any background can rise to global platforms. He believes that success isn’t limited by where you come from, but by how far you’re willing to go. With a clear vision and the courage to pursue it, young people can shape their own path and inspire others along the way.
He encourages youth to prepare well, stay consistent, and believe in their potential. More importantly, he urges them to seek out global opportunities, apply for programs, and step outside their comfort zones. One dedicated person can truly create ripples of change.
Ready to break your own boundaries? Prepare, act, and lead—just like Mr. Ubeid.
